Unblock blocked sites with a virtual IP address

There are many blocked sites on the internet. For example, Hulu and Netflix are blocked outside The USA. BBC iPlayer is blocked outside of The UK. YouTube and Facebook are blocked at work. Twitter and other Western media sites are blocked in China. Skype is blocked in The Middle East. This list goes on. Using a virtual IP address from a virtual private network can unblock these sites. VPNs can get you an IP address from just about any country (with the right service). Most of the time however, a US or UK IP address will be sufficient to unblock blocked sites that you want to (unless you have other country specific sites you wan to visit).
